Jefferson and Mellon Students Are Winners at the America Bowl
Mellon and Jefferson middle school students were big winners at last week's America Bowl hosted by Baldwin High School. Three teams participated and placed 2nd and 3rd in the competition.

Jefferson Middle and Mellon Literary Magazines Earn Excellent Rating from NCTE
Jefferson Middle School’s Literary Magazine Our Piece of Mind and Mellon Middle School’s The Outlook were both recognized with a rank of Excellent in the 2014 National Council of Teachers of English Program to Recognize Excellence in Student Literary Magazines.
School Closing Make-Up Days Set
This month has been particularly challenging because of the weather. Last week, District schools were closed on February 19 and 20 due to cold temperatures and wind chill. As noted in our School Board approved calendar we will make up those student days on Monday, June 15 and Tuesday, 16, 2015.
Science Bowl Team Earns Honors at Department of Energy Science Bowl
Mt. Lebanon High School's two Science Bowl teams competed last weekend at the Department of Energy Science Bowl held at the CCAC South Campus in West Mifflin. We’re happy to report that both teams won their respective divisions and took 5th and 7th place overall at the competition.
Help Out the Mt. Lebanon Fire Department: Adopt a Hydrant!
The Mt. Lebanon Fire Department needs our help with their Adopt-A-Hydrant program. The MLFD developed the program to encourage residents and community groups to assist in assuring that fire hydrants are clear during winter months.
MLFE Grant Recipients Announced at School Board Meeting
At the February 23 School Board meeting, the Mt. Lebanon Foundation for Education Board President Dale Ostergaard presented teacher grants to Kevin McCann,Vicki Burkett,and Stacy Maehling.
Kindergarten Enrollment
It's that time of year when parents of kindergarten age children start thinking about enrollment for the next school year. If your child is five before September 8th or the first student day of school (whichever occurs later) they are eligible to enter kindergarten in August/September of that school year. The School Board approved the calendar for the 2015-2016 school year.
The Mt. Lebanon School Board Elects New Board Leadership
The Mt. Lebanon School Board held a reorganization meeting on December 1, 2014 and elected new board leadership. In a unanimous vote, the School Board elected Lawrence M. Lebowitz president and Mary D. Birks vice president for a term of one year.
Student Outcomes Report Shows High Performance of Schools Continues

Model UN Team Keeps the Streak Alive at Penn State
The Model UN team is off and running toward another stellar season. The team won 1st Place at the Penn State Model UN tournament Oct. 16-19th. It was the third consecutive year Mt. Lebanon won the Penn State MUN tournament and is the first tournament for Lebo of the 2014-15 school year.
